“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”

I am so excited today as the most perfect rose has just bloomed in my garden.  I saw this ‘Jacqueline du Pre’ rose at the Hampton Court Flower show last year – I would have bought one there and then but none were available on sale.  So in November I ordered a bare-root one from David Austin Roses.  When it arrived it looked like something from a sci-fi film…..img_4603With the advice of my good friend Jackie (appropriate name in the circumstances) I planted it on a cold, November day giving it lots of manure and adding some mycorrhizal fungi – (although I’m not convinced that I did that properly).  And watered it well to create a muddy mess with some sticks peeping out:

Over the winter I’ve checked it regularly and for the last few weeks have been excited by the promising looking buds.  Here it is when it featured in a ‘Six on Saturday’ post 10 days ago:img_1690Yesterday it was about to bloom and this morning I was greeted with this – surely the most beautiful rose ever?! img_1958

I’m quite sure that this will feature in future Six on Saturday posts!  Until then…..
